Subject: [Libnet] Data Visualization Workshop at DU - Feb 6

We are hosting a Data Visualization workshop here at DU on Friday, February 6 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Cost for our inaugural professional development offering is $150.

The instructor of the workshop is Joe Ryan, Research Visualization Engineer with the Office of Teaching and Learning at the  University of Denver.  Joe is a technologist with a passion for bringing research to life. He has worked in premiere research universities, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Syracuse University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,  where he has built award-winning projects in a number of domains, including digital humanities, library wayfinding, and campus cyberinstrastructure

Data visualization can be a powerful tool for presenting usage and other evaluation data for greater impact and understanding. This workshop is a great introduction to harnessing this tool. Follow the link below to register.

What?   You've heard a lot about data visualization. You've seen organizations like the New York Times deploy visualizations to communicate about data in ways that almost look like magic. But what is data visualization? Join Instructor Joe Ryan and learn a brief history of - and introduction to - data visualization, followed by a discussion of where data visualization can best help you with your research. The session will also feature an overview of some open-source data visualization tools, along with a workshop component.

Where and When?  Session will be held Friday February 6, 2015 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM The session will be held in Katherine Ruffatto Hall, Room 204, 1999 E. Evans Avenue, Denver CO 80208.

Cost? $150, $75 for students and multiparty discount

Directions & Parking

* Take I-25 to University Blvd. (Exit # 205), from the exit ramp head southbound on University Blvd.
* Turn right (West) at the stoplight at Evans.
* Turn right at Race Street (if you pass the stoplight at High Street, you have gone too far).
* Make an immediate right into Visitor Parking Lot 302, which is west of Katherine A. Ruffatto Hall.
* If that Lot is full, please feel free to park in Visitor Parking Lot 316, which is directly in front of Katherine Ruffatto Hall or Lot 301, which is behind Ruffatto at the intersection of High St. and Evans Ave. Campus Map
