Rethinking Resource Sharing Forum, May 13-14

This meeting may be of interest to Alliance members who are working on
innovative ideas to change workflows and save money. The Rethinking
Resource Sharing Initiative is holding its 2009 Forum on May 13-14 in
Dublin, OH. It will be part inspiration, part working meeting.

Inspirational speakers include:

* Ed Rothman, Professor of Statistics and Director of the Center
for Statistical Research and Consultation at the University of Michigan:
using Deming techniques to implement and manage change

* Mark Leggott, Library Director at the University of Prince
Edward Island: exploring open source software for libraries and open
access initiatives

* Michael Edson, Director of Web and New Media Strategy,
Smithsonian Institution: changing digital strategies and ideas for the
future of information sharing in museums and libraries

* Katie Birch, Portfolio Manager for Delivery Services, OCLC,
UK: global issues for resource sharing

Following the inspiration, time is set aside for the Initiative's
working groups to meet and plan their activities for the coming year.
Some of their discussion topics include launching an internationally
branded home delivery pilot, using print-on-demand as an alternative to
ILL, finalizing and releasing a user needs survey, improving
interoperability between existing resource sharing systems, and
encouraging libraries to adopt more open policies related to resource
sharing.

Everyone is welcome to attend and be actively involved in generating new
ideas to revolutionize and improve resource sharing. We anticipate lots
of lively discussion among this international group!
