Hello everyone!

As some of you already know, we'll be releasing the next version of Gold Rush soon. We've decided it will be released at the end of August. Most of the changes in this version are in the background, making Gold Rush more efficient, more stable, and more scalable. These background changes will also make it possible for us to move forward on a number of new features and enhancements like generating better, more useful statistics for the public interface. We have also made some major improvements in the target management area in the Gold Rush Staff Toolbox.

We'll also be releasing a new version of Gold Rush Linker that will work with the new database structure. There is one bug fix in this release of GR Linker as well. Gold Rush Linker will now understand that you do have access to an article if the full text end date is "current," and the date of the article is in the future. This will accommodate those publishers who insist on claiming a certain publication date for a released issue, even though the date hasn't occurred yet and the issue is already published.

One other change we've made is in how we assign the all important inst_code. The inst_code is the piece of information you pass to Gold Rush on any links you build into your Gold Rush system. It tells Gold Rush which library you are.

Up until now, we've had Gold Rush groups (e.g., Alliance libraries are one group, ORBIS Libraries are another group), which get a numeric code, and Gold Rush institutions, which get a three letter code. With this version of Gold Rush, we're merging these two codes into one. So, if you were in group 000001, and your old inst_code was "AUR", then your new inst_code is "001_AUR".

If you've created links in your web pages which take your users into Gold Rush, you will need to change the inst_code parameter in those links. We will be rolling out Gold Rush V4 on the morning of August 31st. Beginning on August 31st, you should start working on changing those links. Do not change your links before August 31st.

We will be supporting the old links for transition period of at least a month, so you don't have to get everything changed immediately, but you will need to change them.

Here's a list of current groups and codes, along with your new codes...
