Information, Research and Outreach (Reference) Librarian

 

The UCDHSC Health Sciences Library [http://hsclibrary.uchsc.edu/] seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, innovative and experienced Information, Research and Outreach (Reference) Librarian to join us in an ongoing re-creation of reference services. 

 

The UCDHSC health sciences campus includes schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry, allied health and graduate programs, and partners with the University of Colorado Hospital.  All Health Sciences programs are in the process of moving to the new Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado   

[http://www.uchsc.edu/anschutzmedicalcampus/].  The Anschutz Medical Campus is on a forward momentum to embrace translational and interdisciplinary research and education.  Candidates who are excited by the outreach opportunities that this momentum and the new campus and library provide are invited to apply. 

The new twenty-first century library building at the Anschutz Medical Campus is scheduled to open in fall 2007 [http://hsclibrary.uchsc.edu/fitzsimons/].  It will be the physical and digital hub of knowledge on the campus, coordinating access to information in support of learning, research, clinical care, and service to the community. The library is seen as a link between people and knowledge in this technology-intensive era, helping to overcome barriers, meeting needs for information, and providing navigation assistance.  All service points at the new library will be merged into a single service desk, the provision of reference services will no longer be tied to a physical reference desk and reference librarians will be engaged in the process of finding new ways to collaborate, cultivate partnerships and develop innovative services to the communities of health sciences professionals.

Core responsibilities of this position include: serving as liaison to a UCDHSC–HSC school, departments or programs based on interest; discovering and developing outreach opportunities to the university’s researchers, teaching and clinical practice faculty, staff and students; staying abreast of social networking/Web 2.0 and other technologies including mobile devices, and developing innovative and user-centered outreach and reference services; cultivating partnerships and collaborating with faculty on projects including grants; participating in library and departmental planning and marketing; providing traditional reference services, personalized research consultations, and professional literature searches; providing library instruction in cooperation with the library’s Education Department; participating in professional development and service activities including library and campus committees; and contributing to a collegial and collaborative working environment.

 

Required:  Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school; 3 years experience in academic, research or health sciences library; experience in providing reference services; strong database searching skills in health sciences and relevant information resources with tools such as MEDLINE and Ovid; experience with Microsoft Office and bibliographic management software such as EndNote; experience teaching in a classroom or online setting; experience in outreach to customers and/or marketing services.

 

Preferred:  An undergraduate or advanced degree in the health or basic sciences; experience with social networking/Web 2.0 technologies, communication, mobile and other technologies in the delivery of services; awareness of current and emerging trends in the delivery of library and reference services; exceptional interpersonal skills; excellent culturally sensitive communication skills; commitment to excellent customer service; ability to work effectively, creatively and collaboratively in groups or independently; excellent problem solving skills; flexible and highly productive, with excellent time management and organizational skills; tolerance for ambiguity in a changing environment; knowledge of evidence based health care and health informatics concepts; membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals.

 

Salary:  Based on qualifications and experience with a minimum of $42,000; excellent benefits. 

 

Faculty Rank: This is a non-tenured faculty position with faculty rank commensurate with experience.
