Please excuse multiple postings: Hello, The CO Alliance will be hosting a round table on microfiche and digital scanning of fiche on February 9 from 2-5pm at the DU Penrose Library Research Seminar Room (Penrose basement). The impetus behind this purchase is to support electronic delivery of a huge body of government publications at UC-Boulder that are only available in microfiche (estimated at a count of more than 5 million) including federal, state and international documents. However, the scanner would not be limited to the Gov Doc collection, it could be used to support digitization and delivery of microfiche materials from an Alliance member library. Microfiche readers and duplicators are becoming a rarity so a new fiche scanner would provide the ability to continue to access and deliver these valuable materials. Some points of discussion for this round table include: * Copy and storage of the microfiche * If purchased, where to house the Microfiche scanner * Policies regarding use of the scanner * How this would affect the withdrawal process for government documents * Policies and procedures for lending microfiche * Other potential uses of the microfiche scanner Information about the Mach VI-VII http://www.mekel.com/microfiche-scanners/mVI-microfiche-scanner.html * Designed to handle various microfiche and jacket formats * Create superior image quality at high speeds from even the most difficult film * Mach VII-Designed to operate at speeds of up to 200 images per minute Mach-VI scans up to 100 images per minute. * Fiche formats: supports all standard fiche types Rose Nelson Systems Librarian Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries http://www.coalliance.org 303-759-3399 fax 303-759-3363
