In conjunction with the Association of College and Research Libraries
(ACRL), the Auraria Library, along with its partners, the Colorado
Association of Libraries Academic Library Association and the Colorado
Alliance of Research Libraries, is delighted to host a free day-long
workshop on "Scholarly Communications 101: Starting with the Basics."

 

The workshop will take place on August 7, 2009, at the Tiviloi Turnhalle
on the Auraria Campus in Denver from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Onsite
check-in will begin at 9 a.m.

About the Workshop

The Workshop, developed by ACRL <http://www.ala.org/acrl/> , is designed
for those with new leadership assignments in scholarly communication, as
well as librarians who are liaisons/specialists to academic departments,
and those who are interested in the issues surrounding evolving modes of
publication and communication.

The interactive Workshop provides an overview of scholarly communication
issues and systems, copyright and intellectual property, and Open Access
with the goal to support individual or institutional strategic planning
and action.

Presenters:

Sarah L. Shreeves <https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/sshreeve/www/index.html>
is Coordinator for the Illinois Digital Environment for Access to
Learning and Scholarship (IDEALS), the set of services and collections
that comprise the institutional repository at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).  In her position, Sarah is responsible for
working with departments, faculty, students, and researchers on a range
of scholarly communication issues including author rights, open access,
and data curation.

Terri Fishel <http://www.macalester.edu/~fishel/>  is Library Director
at Macalester College and chair of the campus Digital Assets Management
working group that oversees the implementation and development of
systems to manage digital resources including images, media, and text
materials.  

Stan Soocher <http://cam.cudenver.edu/faculty/meis/soocher/index.htm> ,
Associate Professor of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies at the
University of Colorado's Denver Campus, is also the founding and
long-time Editor-in-Chief of Entertainment Law & Finance, an Incisive
Media publication. In addition, Stan is an entertainment attorney and a
multi-recipient of ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards for "Excellence in Music
Journalism," including for his entertainment law articles in Rolling
Stone and The National Law Journal. He is completing a new music law
textbook as well as updating his book They Fought the Law: Rock Music
Goes to Court.

Registration is required and space is limited to 100 participants, so
please register soon to ensure a space.
