MESA STATE COLLEGE JOINS THE COLORADO ALLIANCE OF RESEARCH LIBRARIES

At its July 23, 2009 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Colorado
Alliance of Research Libraries unanimously approved adding Mesa State
College of Grand Junction Colorado as an Alliance member.

Founded in 1925, Mesa State College is a comprehensive regional public
higher education institution offering liberal arts, professional, and
technical programs at the masters, bachelors, associate, and certificate
levels. MSC enrolls more than 6,000 students with ten percent of the
College's student body coming from outside Colorado. Seventy-two
percent of students are traditional-aged and enrolled in full-time
study. In addition to the main campus, MSC maintains a two-year division
in Grand Junction, Western Colorado Community College; and a four-year
branch in Montrose.

Adding MSC brings Alliance membership to thirteen libraries. The library
consortium was launched in 1974 when five library directors met to
consider ways of sharing resources. That was the start of what was
called the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries or "CARL" and later
"The Alliance" when CARL Systems Inc. and the CARL name were sold to
Knight-Ridder Information Inc.

Resource sharing remains the Alliance mission, made even more important
in these days of restricted funding. The Alliance members welcome MSC
and look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership.
