Over the last couple of weeks we
have been hearing from some users that they are getting an “access
denied” message when trying to get to Gold Rush. After doing some
research we discovered the problem is not Gold Rush per se, but a newly
installed firewall at the Colorado Alliance which has stronger firewall
protection policies.
If a user tries to come to Gold
Rush and has some spyware, tracking or virus software indicated by the incoming
http headers, our firewall will block that user. Many times users don’t
realize they have been infected or it may even be a purposefully installed
item. We have changed the obscure and arcane “access denied”
message to a more helpful error message. We have also included instructions on
what to do along with our email address if the user would like to contact us.
Typically this problem will not
affect institutional PCs but is more likely to happen with home computers.
Please let me know if you have any questions
