Database Ranking and One-Click

The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries is pleased to release two new enhancements to the Gold Rush public interface and link resolver. The first enhancement, Database Ranking will allow you to decide the order in which databases appear in the Gold Rush Public Interface and GR Linker search results. There may be databases that you wish to promote because they offer an intuitive search interface, or you spend more of your allotted budget on these resources. Database ranking exposes popular resources by displaying them at the top of the search results list, where they are easily accessible to patrons . Databases can share the same ranking; in this case, they will just appear one after the other in alphabetical order. Unranked titles will appear in alphabetical order in the public interface after ranked entries. It's very easy to rank databases and you can change the order in which they are ranked or rank newly acquired resources with just a couple of mouse clicks. You don't have to rank all of your databases. In fact, the new setting won't be applied until you actively select databases to rank in the GR Staff Toolbox.

One-Click, the second enhancement, allows users to bypass the GR Linker Results page and go directly to an article when linking from one database to another. One-Click eliminates the confusion of deciding which link to choose on the GR Linker Results page. You can set up One-Click for as many databases as you like. You can also prioritize One-Click links. DOI based links (publisher links) can be prioritized at the very top or very bottom of the One-Click table. If two databases are selected for One-Click, the article will resolve to the database that is highest in the One-Click table. You can change, delete or add One-Click settings to any database and you don't have to enable all or any databases for One-Click. One-Click will not be applied until you actively select databases for One-Click.

You can activate the two new features in the GR Staff Toolbox under Holdings>Database Holdings. If your staff login doesn't have privileges to activate the settings, please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> to enable these menu items. I have attached the documentation for the new features. The documentation will also be posted under the "?" the GR Staff Toolbox and also on the Gold Rush information page. http://www.coalliance.org/grinfo/

We encourage you to take some time to experiment with these two new enhancements. See what works best and don't be afraid to change settings as needed. If you have further questions about Database Ranking or One Click, contact Gold Rush Technical support at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or 303-759-3399.
