GOLD RUSH INTEROPERATES WITH WINDOWS LIVE ACADEMIC

(Denver, Colorado. July 11, 2006) Gold Rush Linker interoperates with the new beta version of Windows Live Academic being developed by Microsoft. This new Microsoft service is meant to be a competitor to Google Scholar, a service that Gold Rush Linker became compliant with in 2005.

According to the Microsoft Website (http://academic.live.com) "Windows Live Academic lets you search academic journals and content for article titles, author names, article abstracts, and conference proceedings Windows Live Academic is designed to help you pinpoint what you’re looking for and not waste time with irrelevant content. Sort your results by author, date, publication, and conference, and check out the preview pane before you click through to see an article’s abstract and citation information. The service is currently in beta—which means it hasn’t been officially launched but is fully functional and ready to use. There are currently articles indexed in the fields of computer science, physics, electrical engineering, and related subject areas."

Windows Academic Live is openURL enabled and by sending some simple administrative metadata (including your sites IP address ranges) you can activate Gold Rush Linker with this service. Attached is the XML form that should be completed and returned to Mike Buschman, Program Manager, Windows Academic Live at [log in to unmask]. The contact field is optional, and Microsoft prefers the format 255.255.255.* or multiple individual addresses for the ipRange field.

The baseURL for the your institutional version of Gold Rush Linker is the same as what you report or add to other source services. Contact the Alliance office if you do not know your Gold Rush Linker baseURL.
